Diddy Opens Up About Raising Three Little Girls, Being ‘Sean’ at Home
The rapper-actor-mogul explains that the new network, which is available on Comcast and Time Warner, is “a music network. The best way to describe it, in short form, is it’s the ESPN of music and … the music is curated. Right now kids all over the world stopped watching television and search for content because there isn’t a lot of content that’s made for them, so we actually curate the content and curate an experience of discovery.”
Diddy says that his own résumé adds to the network. “You have to understand it’s coming from a credible place. A lot of the different music channels, they don’t have anybody that’s ever made a hit record … that’s had the [experience].”
And when he’s not busy with the launch of his new network, Diddy’s got his hands full being a daddy to two sons, Christian and Justin, and three daughters.
Justin, his 19-year-old son, plays football at UCLA and Diddy explains when he goes to a game, he doesn’t allow any pictures. “It’s about him that day … I try to sit in a box area. I don’t want to distract from any of the kids. I’m there as a parent.”
And being a parent is one of the roles he’s most proud of. “When I come home or when I’m around my friends or mother, I’m Sean, and especially when I’m a father, I’m Sean, [not Diddy].”
“They are very outspoken,” the proud dad shares, “so they ask my advice for a lot of things … I actually showed them their model walk. I let my guard totally down with my kids, so I tapped in to my feminine side and I showed them my Naomi walk … whatever I have to do to make them happy, there’s nothing I won’t do. I’m not too cool.”
When it comes to his little girls dating, the dad of five jokes: “That’s one part we are just going to play forever.”
All jokes aside, he does think he’ll be able to handle them dating. “I think I’ll be a professional in that because I know all of the tricks,” Diddy admits. “I can share with them the information. I can tell them, ‘Your dad used to be a player, I’m sorry to break the news to you. If the guy is looking … like this… this is how you’re dad used to talk … run away from that guy until he is ready to settle down!'”
Diddy — who had on amazing Tom Ford shoes — continues that when he learned he was having girls, “it changed [his] life” and he made a point to research how to raise them.
“I would ask girls in their 20’s that have great relationships with their fathers … what was the thing that had them not be like really wild and crazy and they were like, ‘That my dad trusted me and never made me feel like I couldn’t come and speak to him because I was going to make mistakes.’ … So I say that to my kids. I make sure we go out and we have a lunch date or a dinner date, just me and the girls, and we just really talk and I say no matter what’s going on, you can tell me the truth.”
