Kelly Clarkson on Being Mrs. Blackstock and Crying at Wedding
The singer, who wed Brandon Blackstock on October 20 at Blackberry Farms in Walland, Tennessee, admits that eloping was the best thing they could have done.
“We needed it, man. I’m so freaking busy right now and so is he,” says Kelly. “So it was really awesome.”
The only people on-hand for the wedding were Brandon’s two children, but Kelly adds that her family was not upset they weren’t there to witness it too.
“Honestly, I thought out of all the people, my mom would have been bummed just because I’m her youngest daughter, but she was so excited. She’s like, ‘I don’t have to go get a dress. I don’t have to feel fat in something. I don’t have to take pictures.’ So she understood. She’s on my schedule [too] so she sees how busy we are. But everybody was really supportive.”
The “Tie It Up” singer also reveals to us that when she and Brandon exchanged vows, there wasn’t a dry eye, especially hers! “Honestly, Oh my god, y’all! I bawled like a freaking baby! We made up our own vows and … then it was like the worst idea ever I could barely get them out. Like it’s on video, me being like, ‘I don’t know if I’m going to get this out!’ Like it was so bad. If I would have had to have done that in front of a bunch of people — I would have vomited!”
Now that she’s officially survived tying the knot, Kelly says that she will be changing her last name, at least to those close to her.
“You have to call me Kelly Blackstock!” she tells Ryan. “I don’t get to go by that very often because everyone knows Clarkson. So now with all my friends, I’m like, ‘You call me Blackstock!”
And Mrs. Blackstock’s celebrating the holidays early with her newly-expanded family with the release of her first-ever Christmas album.
The 31-year-old tells us of Wrapped in Red: “We started recording the album last Christmas [because] I wanted to kind of write some stuff during the actual season, so it wasn’t like June and I was trying to be Christmas-y … I was like, ‘Hey, will everyone wear Christmas PJs? And everyone got really into it and we decorated the studio and had a tree lit up and it looked all white trash with like white trash ornaments — it was really funny.”
“[It was so awesome] writing Christmas stuff,” she adds. “Because usually all my stuff is really depressing or angry … or all about empowerment and you just get to be a little cheesy with the Christmas stuff.”
Wrapped In Red features 14 tracks, like Christmas classics “Silent Night” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” as well as original songs like “Underneath the Tree” and even a shout-out to hubby Brandon with the track “Winter Dreams (Brandon’s Song).”
“My favorite classic is ‘Run Run Rudolph,’” Kelly explains. “Just because it got to be a little more rock and roll. The producer, Greg, he did not see that coming. He was like, ‘Holy crap!’ Everything else had been really sweet like, ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas’ [and] then I came in and he was like, ‘Oh.’ But that was one of my favorites. And ‘Underneath The Tree’ was my favorite I got to write on … it’s a fun song and makes you feel like you can go shopping and have hot cocoa.”
We’d like to thank Kelly for getting us in to the Christmas spirit early … Fa-La-La!
