Ed Sheeran surprised fans at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday by performing his newest song, “So In Love.”

Before he performed the new tune live for the first time, the singer-songwriter set the mood for his acoustic performance by asking the audience to “shush,” and remarkably, the newly-revamped arena filled with thousands of shrieking fans complied.

After admitting the song was written after the Grammys when people were “talking s**t,” the 22-year-old began to pluck his six-string and soulfully crooned the new love ballad, which has the same soothing vibe as his monster hits, “Give Me Love,” “Lego House,” and “The A Team.”

The British redhead is currently working on his sophomore album, which feature’s Snow Patrol‘s Jonny Quinn. Ed will continue his three-date residency at Madison Square Garden on November 1 and wrap up on November 7 (click here for tickets and information).
