Jonas Brothers Explain Breakup on ‘GMA’: ‘We’re Family First’

Fans can finally find some comfort in hearing the reasoning behind the Jonas Brothers split, which they announced on Tuesday. Nick, Joe, and Kevin made an appearance on Good Morning America on Wednesday to explain their “unanimous” decision to break up as a band.

“We’re family first and that’s always been our main priority and so honesty within what we do as a group was really important,” said Nick. The youngest Jo Bro was the one who kicked off the discussion with brothers concerning certain issues within the band that were never addressed.

“I came to the table with the guys just before we were prepping to leave for tour, and I shared my heart with them, my feelings,” he said. “I think this train will fall off the tracks without really getting real about some of the concerns and some of the limitations that we may feel as individuals in the group.”

Nick added, “It was a tough conversation…It was the first time we really had that real conversation. It was a few days of working through it.” Joe explained that they were “bumping heads” for many reasons, like ways to set up the music video, personal opportunities, and their new music sounding “stale.”

Unfortunately, the “First Time” singers’ new album, V, will not be completed, but Kevin mentioned that fans will get a special treat for their ongoing support. “We’re going to release four of the unreleased songs from the album,” he said. “And we put together the live tracks from the last summer tour–about 10 songs as well–so we’ll be giving that to our fans club members, as a gift from us.”

Nick clarified that they are very excited to see what the future holds, but feel a certain “heaviness” as they begin to close the Jonas Brothers chapter of their lives. He added,”I think that we have the best fans in the world and have for our entire career so we thank them for that and thank them for really understanding.”

So what’s next for the trio? Nick and Joe are planning to continue writing and recording new solo music and venturing into acting opportunities, while Kevin is preparing to be a new dad and work on the more “business side of things.”

“This is the first time in a long time we have time to focus on ourselves and support each other through that, Joe replied summing it up. “We know it’s going to be sad for a lot of people but for us we are looking forward to the future.”

But does that include a reunion? “I think it’s impossible to say forever with anything,” Nick said. “I feel like we’re playing it one step at a time right now and, like we said, rebuilding as brothers first and starting there.”
