Lady Gaga Pokes Fun at Herself, Performs with R. Kelly on ‘SNL’

It’s a good thing Lady Gaga “lives for the applause,” because that’s exactly what she got when she served as both host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live this weekend.

The New York-born and raised singer made her hosting debut when she stepped onstage donning a shimmery showgirl-esque dress and a short blonde wig.

The pop star put an interactive, Broadway twist to her smash single, “Applause,” during her opening monologue by replacing the heavy-pop beats from the studio version with soft percussions and a buzzing trumpet.

During the Gaga-hosted episode, Mother Monster played a geeky Apple store genius and pokes fun at the Kardashians, and the “Venus” singer even sets herself up as the punchline for a sketch titled, “Worst Cover Songs of All Time” — calling her single, “Born This Way” a “bad cover” of Madonna‘s “Express Yourself.”

The 27-year-old also played her old, future self, a washed-out pop star with deli meat — referencing her 2010 VMAs dress.

Gaga paid her dues as musical guest by bringing R. Kelly out onstage for a sex-fueled performance of their single, “Do What U Want,” off Gaga’s newly-released album, ARTPOP, and she concluded the night with a soulful performance of “Gypsy.”
