Fergie Talks Baby Axl and Working on Another Solo Album

Fergie stopped by On Air with Ryan Seacrest for the first time since becoming a mom to her 3-month-old son with husband Josh Duhamel and talked about everything from parenting to an upcoming solo album and her first project post-pregnancy.

Fergie, who is now legally Fergie Duhamel, admitted since giving birth to Axl back in August, the experience has been “such a trip.”

“I had no idea what I was going to be doing,” Fergie laughs. “Thank the lord for my husband. He’s been my saving grace. He grew up with little sisters. He’s teaching me everything.”

Josh is not only the pro, but he’s also the one with babies on the brain, says Fergie. “When we first started dating we talked about that and I said, ‘How many kids do you want to have?’ And he said, ‘Like five!’ And I really liked him and I was like, ‘I have to tell you something, I really like you, but my limit for kids is two, so if we want to keep this going on this way that we’re going [I need you to bring that down].'”

While she may not want five kids, Fergie admits a second child is definitely a part of their larger plan. “We negotiated so two was the number [we came to.]”

And Josh sounds like the perfect partner to have if you’re expecting. “My husband, he went half the pregnancy clean and sober,” she adds. “It was very cool and then I was like, “It’s fine, go ahead honey!'”

Since becoming a mom, Fergie’s been not only working out, but also getting back to work while also making friends with fellow famous moms.

Fergie recently hung out with Kim Kardashian while at Kanye West‘s Yeezus tour in Los Angeles. “That was fun,” she reveals. “She took me back and I got to see little Nori. She’s adorable. Such a beautiful little girl.”

As for getting back in shape, “I’m working on it,” she admits. “I started slowly because I had a C-section, so I had to wait two months and do nothing. [But] I worked out throughout my pregnancy and I did belly dancing yoga and I worked with trainers, so I felt in pretty good shape for being pregnant … so now I’m getting back in to the same thing I was doing.”

Fergie is also lending her maternal side for a good cause: She’s teaming up with Unilever for Project Sunlight.

“It’s a campaign about sustainability,” says the new mom. “We are helping 2 million children by giving them school meals, safe drinking water, hygiene, [and more]. When that project was put in front of me it was a no brainer because of Axl. I’ve loved being in mommyhood and being at home but … this [spoke] to me … [and I want] to live by example and to teach him by example.”

As for new music, Fergie admits she’s always working on it, but a break was necessary. “It was time for me to get a little break and have my kid,” she shares.

“I feel like I’m in my cave right now. I’m watching and listening. I’m kind of doing what I did before I was in the Black Eyed Peas, I’m studying what’s out there … I’m just marianting on all my ideas right now.”

And those ideas include another solo record. “I’m also signed to [Will.i.am‘s] imprint on Interscope, I am Music, so he knows I want to do a solo album next.”

Her first solo record, The Dutchess, “was comprised of songs that were from a seven year period, a lot of people don’t know that. So I’ve been writing down my ideas. I’ve been just in my little creative cave and the ideas come when they come and that’s the beauty of it. It’s so not forced so when I do come out with my album, I’m going to be really proud of it.”
