One Direction Make History With Third No. 1 Album

There’s only one direction when it comes to their album sales, and it’s up.

One Direction‘s third studio album, Midnight Memories, went straight to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with over 546,000 copies sold in the first week, sending Eminem‘s The Marshall Mathers LP 2, to the No. 2 spot, with 199,000 last week, according to the Nielson SoundScan.

This achievement makes 1D the first group to land the No. 1 spot with three albums since 1967, Billboard reports. Their debut album, Up All Night, launched with 176,000 in 2011, and their sophomore album, Take Me Home, sold 540,000 in its first week in 2012.

The British boy bander will be joining *NSYNC and Backstreets Boys on the short list of pop groups with first-week sales of more than 500,000.

Congratulations, One Direction!
