‘The Secret Life of Walter Mitty’ Actor Ben Stiller Talks ‘Zoolander’ Sequel

Ben Stiller phoned in to On Air with Ryan Seacrest to talk about his latest movie coming out The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, which he starred in, directed, and produced.

Ben describes The Secret Life of Walter Mitty as an “open-hearted movie” and revealed his decision to take on the film was because it was not only something new for him, but different overall.

“I just loved, first of all, the tone of the story,” says Ben. “It wasn’t one genre [it’s a comedy and an adventure] … Walter has to step out of reality … it’s a story about self discovery and it felt to me like something I can connect with.”

The movie, which also stars Kristen Wiig, focuses on a daydreamer who escapes his anonymous life when his job is threatened by disappearing into a world of fantasies, embarking on a global journey that turns into an adventure more extraordinary than anything he could have ever imagined.

When it comes to directing and starring in the the flick, Ben admits it’s about being able to rely on others and this was a project he hadn’t explored yet in his career.

“I hadn’t directed a movie on that world or tone, so it was kind of strange because I’m so used to straight-up comedies,” Ben admits.

And when it comes to his funny flicks, Ben hasn’t ruled out a Zoolander sequel … or acting overall.

After rumors surfaced Ben is calling it quits on acting, he assures us: “I’m not announcing my retirement from acting. But I’ve always loved directing since I was a kid.” He goes on to say in the future he looks forward to continuing to direct more movies and specifically ones he isn’t starring in.

As for those Zoolander sequel rumors, Ben laughs: “If I keep on holding them off by the time I’m 60, maybe they’ll stop, but it could happen.”

Hear that, Hansel?!
