Harry Connick Jr. Talks ‘Fresh, Energized’ ‘American Idol’ Talent

New American Idol judge Harry Connick Jr. phoned into On Air with Ryan Seacrest to talk about joining this season’s panel and the amazing talent fans will get to see.

The singer-actor, who reveals he’s never missed a day in the gym in years, says he’s “really excited” for Idol fans to see what’s in store this year.

“I’m really excited, you know, I’ve been watching the show since the first season, I’m such a fan,” Harry reveals. “It’s so fun to be up on the judges panel … it feels like a fresh, energized take. It seems like it’s going to be a really great year … and this talent is off the hook.”

And aside from adding his energy and love of the show to the panel, Harry’s also known for educating the contestants.

He explains that he wants them to learn because: “When it comes to actually playing music a lot of people are like, ‘Well, I just play what I feel.’ Well you can still play what you feel and know your craft and I think the key is to try to guide them and help them become the greatest artist they can be.”

The singer, who is also dad to three daughters, admits his girls might be even more excited than he is about Idol.

“They’re so excited [I’m a judge]. There are no words. We’ve all watched the show for so long I can’t tell you the nights we’ve all sat around as a family like, ‘Well I like this one! I like this one!” They’re so excited. I can’t even tell you.”

And we can’t wait to tune in!
