It’s one thing to cover a song with musical instruments … but how about bottles and cans?

That’s what YouTube superstar Kurt Hugo Schneider did with two of the biggest songs from last year: Calvin Harris‘ “Feels So Close” (above, with Sam Tsui on vocals) and “Little Talks” by Of Monsters and Men (below, with beatboxing cellist Kevin Olusola). Using only Coca-Cola bottles, cans, and glasses filled with the beverage to achieve different sounds, Kurt really put a creative spin on the popular songs!

In fact, his impressive work will be broadcast all over the world when the viral videos will appear in a Coca-Cola Ahh spot during the Season 13 premiere of American Idol on Wednesday night.

Kurt put just as much work into making the videos as he did the cover songs.

“We had to build what we called a ‘Coke-aphone’ – on set,” he explains. “In the films, it’s the instrument that looks like hanging chimes made of glass Coke bottles. It was actually built out of a cabinet in my apartment. I had to disassemble it to get it into my car and to the studio. It took five production assistants and us looking at it over a lunch break to figure out how to reassemble it. It was kind of embarrassing, but fortunately we got it to work.”
