Ruben Studdard Revives Teddy Pendergrass’ ‘Close the Door’

After competing on the reality weight loss show, The Biggest Loser, Ruben Studdard is making his return to music with his rendition of Teddy Pendergrass‘ ’70s classic, “Close the Door,” and has the exclusive premiere.

In the lounge-friendly track produced by Eric Benet, the American Idol Season 2 winner formerly known as “The Velvet Teddy Bear,” croons the passionate ballad and evokes the neo-soul era with his silky-smooth vocals, which are accompanied by nostalgic jazz beats.

“Close the Door” is a track off his forthcoming Unconditional Love album due out on February 4, but fans can pre-order the LP — featuring a duet with Stevie Wonder and Lalah Hathaway — on iTunes by clicking here.

“My new album #UnconditionalLove is the kind of music my fan base from American Idol expected from me after I won…” Ruben shared on Facebook.
