Macklemore Tells Kendrick Lamar ‘I Robbed You’ After Grammy Win

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis reigned supreme at the Grammys and made winning look like a quick trip to the thrift shop — but one title they brought home had Mack feeling like his good friend was “swindled by a business.”

The “Same Love” rapper — who swept the rap category with four awards — immediately sent an apologetic iMessage to Kendrick Lamar following his win for Best Rap Album, which The Heist artist shared on Instagram post-Grammys.

“You got robbed. I wanted you to win. You should have,” Macklemore texted. “It’s weird and sucks that I robbed you.”

Macklemore continued his sound-off with a detailed caption, saying the Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City artist “deserved best rap album.”

“My text to Kendrick after the show. He deserved best rap album… I’m honored and completely blown away to win anything much less 4 Grammys,” the 30-year-old explained. “But in that category, he should have won IMO. And that’s taking nothing away from The Heist. Just giving GKMC it’s proper respect.. With that being said, thank you to the fans. You’re the reason we were on that stage tonight. And to play Same Love on that platform was a career highlight. The greatest honor of all. That’s what this is about. Progress and art. Thank you. #grammysFollow.”

The Seattle duo also won a Grammy for Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance, and Best New Artist.
