Dr. Oz stopped by On Air with Ryan Seacrest to provide his expert advice to all those struck by the flu this year.

“It’s not affecting as many people, but the people it affects are getting a lot sicker, especially young people,” the talk-show host explains. ”It’s related to the Spanish influenza, which happened in 1918 and killed 20 million people around the globe. It was a bad strain, so a lot of young people are ending up in the hospital with this year’s version of the flu which is a-typical … it lingers and it makes you feel real poorly.”

And if you’re one of the many who have been affected by the flu, Dr. Oz has a few tips to help.

“Chicken soup actually works, believe it or not,” Dr. Oz says. “It’s got prostaglandins in it … they have chemicals in it that turn on the white blood cells, which are the protective cells of your body and in some countries they add spices to it, which are also valuable, so it clears out your airway a little bit and makes you feel better and at the same time, accelerates your recovery.”

Other helpful remedies include Zinc and even things like hot toddies (a warm alcoholic beverage). In his new magazine, Dr. Oz: The Good Life, there are hot toddy recipes from France and more unexpected cures from around the world.

Dr. Oz explains his magazine isn’t called The Good Life because despite “good” things like fast cars and luxurious items, “the people in your life, define your life.”
