Steve Harvey Shares His 90-Day Probation Rule in Relationships
He says it came about because Valentine’s Day falls in the middle of February and he “wanted to give guys a bunch of great ideas to kind of lay the woman in their life out and then wanted to highlight women to just show all the guys how great women can truly be.”
Along with giving couples advice, he’ll also be officiating marriages. “Probably the biggest thing I’m going to do is … for Valentine’s Day, I’m going to marry 50 couples on my show. I got actually ordained as an officiant! … I can officially marry a person in the state of Illinois.”
And surely those couples will also get loads of advice from Harvey, who is best known for his theory on giving up the “cookie.”
When it comes to the time that a woman should “give herself” to a man, Steve’s created an equation he wants all women to hear.
“Here’s the deal,” he shares. “I created this equation to benefit the woman because how many times has a woman given herself to a man and then later on said, ‘Wow! If only I knew what I know now, I wouldn’t have given myself to [that person].’ So I said here’s a 90-day rule for you and I came up with the equation after my days working at Ford.”
Harvey explains it was the company’s probation period that got him thinking. “You have a probation period of 90 days before that company gives you a full benefit package. Women should look at their benefit the same way because they have the greatest benefit package available to man … so why would you pass out the greatest benefit package … and he isn’t qualified for it? So you need a 90-day probation period [to get to know them] and that’s how long I think women should wait.”
And if three months sounds like quite the task, the talk show host offers: “If you’re looking for a long term relationship, 90 days pales in the 20-year scheme … But, if you’re looking to hit it and quit it, then go knock yourself out!”
