Go Behind the Scenes of Beyonce’s Music Videos
Beyonce took everyone by surprise when she managed to keep her self-titled album BEYONCE under wraps all the way up until its December 2013 release.
Jake Nava, the director behind Queen Bey’s “Single Ladies” music video, shared an inside look at what it was like to work with her on the videos that she filmed as part of the surprise release.
The director talked about shooting “Grown Woman,” which is a throwback-inspired video where Beyonce channels her younger self. “What was amazing about those scenes is that she just looks so young in them. Her ability to act as she would have at that age is what really brought those scenes to life.”
Nava also talked about his attempt to capture genuine intimacy between Beyonce and her hubby, Jay-Z for the “Partition” video (despite his busy tour schedule), and the style choices and spontaneity behind the “Flawless” video shoot.
Jake has worked with Beyonce for over 12 years now and still feels inspired by her creativity. “How I feel so inspired to work with her is because she’s so clearly one of the most interesting talented artists in the world. No matter what idea I may bring to the party, she steps up with as much, if not more, in terms of what she brings to it. That is kind of what you want from an artist.”
