R5 Talk Success, Perform ‘(I Can’t) Forget About You,’ and Cover OneRepublic
The band — brothers Ross, Riker, and Rocky Lynch, sister Rydel Lynch, and their pal Ellington Ratliff — were still riding high following their appearance on American Idol on Wednesday night.

As for how they became a band, Riker, 22, explains: “We’ve been performing ever since we were little. Growing up, my dad played a ton of Bruce Springsteen and Elvis, and I basically wanted to be Elvis and Michael Jackson … and these guys would just follow me around,” he adds with a laugh.
Soon after moving to Los Angeles from Colorado, the talented siblings taught themselves how to play instruments, and the rest is history.
As for their catchy single “(I Can’t) Forget About You, which they performed live in the studio, it was a collaboration between a few writers and the band. “It’s basically self-explanatory. It’s that night that you can’t remember all the details, but you remember the girl.”
After R5 pulled off a pretty impressive cover of OneRepublic‘s “Counting Stars,” Ryan surprised them with the honor of opening Wango Tango — which is May 10 at the StubHub Center — on the main stage, in addition to also playing the outdoor Village stage … and to say they were excited would be an understatement!
