Rixton Cover Drake and Talk American Girls
Rixton have been taking the world by storm with their hit “Me and My Broken Heart,” and we were lucky enough to have the British quartet come by the On Air with Ryan Seacrest studio on Wednesday morning.
Jake Roche, Charley Bagnall, Danny Wilkin, and Lewi Morgan first got together as a band five years ago after being friends … or as Lewi put it, “Awkwardly, I tried stealing Jake’s girlfriend.”
Soon after, the guys caught the eye of manager Scooter Braun because Jake went to school with Nathan Sykes of The Wanted.
“He’s a very good friend of mine,” the vocalist explains. “And he just put me in touch with Scooter and out of the blue, Scooter just flew to London and we just spent six hours with him in the studio. And from there, it just kinda of escalated … that was like a year ago.”
As for the band’s name, the true story is that there really isn’t any meaning behind it. “We try and make stuff up, and it just doesn’t work,” jokes Jake. “We just had a few little drinks one night …”
Coincidentally, nine months after they named the band, Charley was on his way to Lewi’s house five hours away and blew out a tire, “and I was looking for the nearest garage,” explains Lewi. “And there’s this road directly across from my house, which I’ve never been down — and I’ve lived there for eight years — and literally right around the corner is Rixton Grove.”
Despite Jake being sick with bronchitis and tonsillitis, Rixton performed not one, but two songs for us live in the studio: “Me and My Broken Heart” and a cover of Drake’s “(Hold On) We’re Going Home” (watch video above).
