Jennifer Lopez Talks About Meaning Behind New Single, ‘First Love’
Jennifer Lopez has had plenty of romance in her life, but her new song is all about the feeling of the “First Love.”
“For me, it’s like that feeling when you find somebody that you are really are into, and you’re like, ‘Why didn’t I meet you years ago? I wouldn’t have had to go through all this crap,'” she jokes. But in all seriousness, “It’s just one of those love songs, like ‘I love you, I’m happy that I found you’ type of thing.”
And it’s just one of the songs on her upcoming album, which Jennifer is especially proud of. “It’s good! It was my 10th album, and in my mind, I was so stuck on it being something I was really proud of … and I am.”
The title though is still under wraps. When Ryan asked if it might be named after one of the songs, “Big Booty,” Jennifer laughed. “It’s not ‘Big Booty.’ That’s one of the songs on the album. You might have heard that … I blast that one in my trailer at Idol when I’m getting ready.”
Although she’s a fan of it now, it wasn’t a song she wanted to record initially. “It was so dumb to me at first,” she explains. “I was like, ‘There’s not way I will ever do a song called ‘Big Booty,’ especially after all the talk over the years about my butt.”
But she came to see it differently after her 6-year-old twins gave their stamp of approval.
“I put it in the car … I had Max and Emme in there with me, and they just went crazy for it,” Jennifer says. “The minute it came on, it was like an instant-listen thing … For them, it’s just fun. It made me see we over-think things sometimes, and I don’t want to over-think things. I just want have fun and be happy and make music that makes people happy and feel something.”
Although the album doesn’t have a title yet, it does have a release date: June 17. And with pre-orders starting in a few weeks, “they’re pressuring me to finish,” she jokes.
“First Love” is available for download on iTunes now!
