Mariah Carey to Fans: ‘Don’t Judge Me’ for Album Title

Mariah Carey picked an extra special day to reveal details of her upcoming album!

At the strike of midnight on Thursday, just moments after her sixth wedding anniversary to Nick Cannon and the 3rd birthday of their twins Monroe and Moroccan, the singer dropped the title, cover, track list, release date, and meaning behind Me. I Am Mariah …The Elusive Chanteuse.

In a video Mariah released at the same time, she explains the meaning behind the head-scratching title.

“On the back cover of this album is a personal treasure,” she says as a childhood drawing is shown. “This is my first and only self-portrait. I drew it when I was 3-and-a-half  and entitled it, ‘Me. I am Mariah.’ Please don’t judge me for such a simplistic title … come on, I was only 3-and-a-half … I’ve kept this stored in private for so long, but because this album is a reflection of some of the peaks and valleys that have made me who I am today, I’ve decided to share it with those of you who actually care and have been here for me through it all.”

As for the “Elusive Chanteuse” part of the title, Mariah adds that she’s been called many things over the years, and that has been the nickname lately … but then the video ends with a laugh before she can explain further.
