Ed Sheeran Says His Song ‘Don’t’ Is ‘Not About Taylor’ on ‘Ellen’

Ed Sheeran stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Friday and sat down with the daytime host to promote his sophomore X album.

After performing his Pharrell-produced single, “Sing,” off the upcoming LP (below), the 23-year-old discussed the love-bound lyrics to “Don’t” with Ellen.

“This CD [X] is very personal. There’s a lot of songs on here, so there’s a lot of songs written about all the girls you’re with,” Ellen says. After reading the cryptic love-tinged lyrics, Ellen implies, “You were with Taylor Swift a lot.”

“It’s not about Taylor,” the British singer insists, adding, “I feel like the way I get my anger out is to write songs, and that song was literally, I felt something I put it down, and I felt a lot better afterwards.”

Although the lyrics may not be about his “Everything Has Changed” collaborator, the song may be dedicated to his new girlfriend. In an interview with Us Weekly that was published on Tuesday, Ed revealed that Taylor has already met the mystery girl over dinner, and his best friend — and wing-woman — approves.

“We went for dinner in London,” says Ed, who is also featured on the Fault in Our Stars soundtrack. “She likes her.”

Ed’s X album is slated for a worldwide release on June 23. The British singer will also kick off his North American tour on August 22 in Seattle, Washington. Click here for tickets and information.
