‘SNL’ Spoofs Jay Z and Solange’s Elevator Fight in Hilarious Sketch

For their season finale hosted by Andy Samberg, Saturday Night Live spoofed one of the biggest pop culture stories of the week: Jay Z and Solange Knowles‘ infamous elevator brawl.

Starring show veteran Jay Pharoah as Jay Z and SNL newcomer Sasheer Zamata as Solange, the pair replayed the TMZ-obtained security footage — but this time with audio — which tells a different story. According to the “exclusive version of the leaked video,” Solange was actually trying to ward a spider off Jay Z, who is apparently “arachnophobic.”

“Oh my god there’s a spider on you,” says Solange as she throws her first set of jabs. “What get it,” replies HOV. “You know I hate spiders.”

After the clip, SNL alum Maya Rudolph stepped out and delivered a spot-on impersonation of Beyoncé using references to the diva’s songs.

“Last week, we was all at the Met Ball having a great time. We’ve been drinking, watermelon,” says Maya as her hair blows in the wind. “But the next morning we woke up and saw that people had posted a video of us, and I was like, ‘Uh oh, uh oh, uh oh, oh no no.’ So if you think I condone this invasion of privacy, ‘then you must not know about me, you must not know about me.'”

The real physical altercation took place in an elevator at the Standard Hotel after the Met Gala. The security footage went viral after TMZ leaked the footage on May 12. The trio have released a statement following the controversy, saying, “We’ve put this behind us.”
