Lucy Hale Talks New Album, Her Boyfriend, and ‘Pretty Little Liars’
Lucy Hale is one busy lady!
Not only is she gearing up for the fifth season premiere of Pretty Little Liars, but the 24-year-old is set to release her debut album, Road Between, on June 3. And she still found the time to stop by On Air with Ryan Seacrest on Thursday morning.
In fact, Lucy just wrapped the 100th episode of PLL, the idea of which is “just blowing my mind, crazy,” she says.
But that is about all she’s going to tell us of the upcoming season! “Our show is crazy, it’s nuts,” she hints about the plot line this season. “I can’t keep up.”
Yet when it came to the memorable scene in last season’s finale of Ezra getting shot, Lucy did explain how she was able to cry so well on cue.
“Mainly it was out of frustration because we were up on this ski lift … because we had done it like 30 times. And you know, your natural reaction when you’re upset is you want to run away, but we were up in the air on this thing, so it just came naturally. And there was some wind, so that really helped with the tears, too.”
Patience was also the virtue Lucy had when it came to recording Road Between. “We spent two-and-a-half years making the album,” she explains. “I always loved country music, and I kind of didn’t know what I wanted to do musically for a while. But it just felt right.”
One of her favorite songs on the album is “Nervous Girls,” which brought Lucy to tears when she first heard it. “It was one we were sent last minute … It was like 2 a.m. and I heard this song and I just started crying. I was like, ‘You have to let them let me sing this song.’ I think it was on hold for someone else. And then I finally got to sing it.”
Of course, Ryan and Ellen couldn’t let Lucy go without asking about her personal life, especially her boyfriend, country singer Joel Crouse.
“It’s great,” she gushed, somewhat embarrassed. “I’m happy. Life is good.”
And Lucy is somewhat of a cougar because her boyfriend is three years younger! “Ya’ll are the first people to call me out on this,” she joked. “I don’t even know what to say.”

Road Between is out on Tuesday, June 3, but you can pre-order it on iTunes now! And Pretty Little Liars is back for its fifth season premiere on June 10 on ABC Family.
