Chelsea Handler to Host First Netflix Talk Show

Netflix takes on late night?

The online powerhouse, best known for its binge-watching community and its original hit series, like Orange is the New Black, announced Thursday that Chelsea Handler would be joining the team in creating its first talk show, expected in early 2016. E! has confirmed that Chelsea will wrap her current production, Chelsea Lately August 26.

“If I was going to continue working in this industry, I knew I had to do something outside the box to keep myself interested,” said Chelsea in a statement. “I wanted to sit with the cool kids at lunch so I approached Netflix to make sure they were as cool as I thought they were, and when I confirmed my suspicions, like with any other future lover, I made my move.”

No word yet on how the show will be produced, whether nightly or not; but we can definitely expect this comedian to keep her sass and humor.

It wasn’t long ago that Chelsea posted this photo on Instagram with a visible CBS logo, which sparked controversy that the queen of comedy might be filling in for David Letterman after his departure from late night television.

In an interview with Ellen Degeneres (view below), Chelsea set the rumors straight saying, “I would never go to CBS … my mouth, what would they do with me there? I would never be on a regular network. I would never do that to my fans, or myself, or to the network!”

She jokingly continued, “I think it’s time to move on. I want a vacation and sleep, you know?”

Chelsea stressed that she doesn’t want to simply fill in for someone else, saying, “I like to do jobs that no one has ever done … I like to create my own thing.”

As for now, fans can look forward to watching Chelsea’s stand-up special inspired by her book, Uganda Be Kidding Me, premiering on Netflix October 10.
