First Photos of Yaya DaCosta as Whitney Houston for Lifetime’s Biopic
Although Whitney Houston’s biopic I Will Always Love You: The Whitney Houston Story isn’t set to be released until 2015, Lifetime gave fans a sneak peek of their leading lady, and she nails it!
The photo features Yaya DaCosta, who will play the late singer, in a recreation of her iconic 1987 Whitney album cover. Although she has Lee Daniel’s The Butler and The Kids Are Alright on her acting resume, her modeling background definitely came in handy.
“I just looked at the picture and did the pose!” said the former America’s Next Top Model star.
Lifetime also released a photo of DaCosta and her co-star Arlen Escarpeta, who will play Houston’s ex-husband Bobby Brown. Whitney’s life, specifically her relationship with Brown, will be the subject of the new biopic, said director Angela Basset in a statement.
“I want you to fall into the world of Whitney and Bobby. And I don’t want to stop you at the gate with maybe the image of something familiar, someone you’ve seen from something else,” said Whitney’s Waiting to Exhale co-star. “I have such regard for both Whitney’s and Bobby’s amazing talents and accomplishments and I feel a responsibility in the telling of their story.”
