Ariana Grande Covers ‘Seventeen’ Magazine, Opens up About Her Dad
In Ariana Grande‘s world-conquering single “Problem” featuring Iggy Azalea, the 21-year-old sings about ending a relationship she’s better off without. However, one man she has had a difficult time dealing with was her dad.
In an unfiltered interview with Seventeen magazine, the Yours Truly artist poses in several Clueless–inspired outfits and opens up about “falling out of touch” with her estranged father.
“It’s private, but it happened last year. It took me so long to be okay with it. The thing that got me there was embracing the fact that that I am made up of half my dad, and a lot of my traits come from him,” she reveals. “So much of me comes from my father, and for so long, I didn’t like that about myself.”
Not only does the former Nickelodeon star tell all about her relationship with her dad, she also explains how she overcame the insecurities that arose from stardom.
“It’s tough to spend some of the most important years of your life in front of so many strangers who want to pick you apart,” she admits. “Insecurity has been the hardest thing I’ve had to overcome. I think everyone my age struggles with that because everyone strives for approval and wants to feel loved.”
“I focus on what’s important. My grandpa is sick, so I focus on him every day,” says the “Break Free” singer, who lost her beloved grandfather last week. “I’m having the biggest song of my career so far, and all I can think about is my grandpa, because that’s what’s important to me.”
Ariana’s issue of Seventeen will be available on newsstands on August 5 and her highly-anticipated My Everything album drops on August 25.
