Lorde to Curate ‘Mockingjay Part 1’ Soundtrack, Pen Lead Single

The Grammy winner has volunteered as tribute to curate the soundtrack for the fall blockbuster, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1.

The “Royals” singer, who covered “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” by Tears for Fears for the Catching Fire soundtrack, will have the pleasure of writing an original song for the film, Lionsgate announced via Twitter on Thursday.

Not only will Lorde provide the lead single for Mockingjay, she is also responsible for selecting every artists who will appear on the record.

“Curating the soundtrack for such a hotly-anticipated film was a challenge, but I jumped at the chance,” the 17-year-old said in a press release. “The cast and story are an inspiration for all musicians participating and, as someone with cinematic leanings, being privy to a different creative process has been a unique experience. I think the soundtrack is definitely going to surprise people.”

The “Team” singer, who will perform at Chicago’s Lollapalooza on August 1, is scheduled to kick off her North American tour on September 5 in Philadelphia and will wrap up in Austin, Texas on October 12. Click here for her tour dates.

The LP for Mockingjay — Part 1 is scheduled to drop this fall via Republic Records. The film will hit theaters on November 21.
