Jason Derulo Reveals What He Talked About With First Lady at White House Dinner
The 24-year-old and the former American Idol winner were among the some 50 guests who were invited to the exclusive First Family-hosted soiree, so On Air with Ryan Seacrest dialed in Jason for an intel briefing.
By a fluke, the “Marry Me” collaborators were seated at the same table as the first lady, and during their dinner, she revealed that her first order of business upon entering the official residence was installing wireless connection.
“One of the funny things was, when they [the Obamas] got into office, there was no wifi. So she [Michelle Obama] was like, we had to put wifi in the whole building,” Jason revealed. “But the people were like, ‘So, where do you want the wifi exactly?’ and she was like, ‘Everywhere!”
Luckily, what the White House lacks in modern technology, it makes up for in culinary arts. According to the “Whatcha Say” singer, he was served a “nice piece of steak,” and was contemplating seconds.
Jason, who is a nominee for Best Pop Video and Best Choreography at the 2014 MTV’s Video Music Awards, also sat down with the lesser famous Dave Skylark — a fictional character played by James Franco in his upcoming film The Interview. In the award show promo spin-off, Dave Skylark’s Very Special VMA Special, James and Seth Rogen try to cleverly trick Jason into singing his last name.
“The whole funny thing about it is, I retired it,” Jason said about his former trademark. “So it’s not something that I do anymore, but he [James and Seth] was going in on that, man.”
To find out if Jason does get tricked into singing his name, tune into Dave Skylark’s Very Special VMA Special on Sunday, August 17 at 9 p.m. MTV’s Video Music Awards will air the following week on August 24 at 9/8c.
The singer-songwriter is also scheduled to kick off his “first real tour,” Talk Dirty, in October. For tickets and information, head over to JasonDerulo.com.
