Ariana Grande Reveals True Meaning Behind ‘Break Free’

Ariana Grande may have had a “Problem” on her first single, but on its follow-up, she’s learning to “Break Free.”

Although the hot track — which has been quickly climbing the AT40 chart — seems like it’s about getting over a relationship, the singer says that’s not exactly the case.

She explained to the AT40 staff that the lyrics for the Zedd-produced song are actually about breaking free of her insecurities … which makes complete sense when you listen to the chorus: “This is the part when I say I don’t want ya / I’m stronger than I’ve been before / This is the part when I break free / ‘Cause I can’t resist it no more.”

The iHeartRadio Music Festival performer will also be hosting AT40 this weekend, and she’ll be answering fan questions as well as counting down the nation’s biggest singles. Before then, fans can tweet their question using the hashtag #ArianaOnAT40.
