Howie Mandel on Why ‘AGT’ Is ‘Perfect Show for Anybody’
With the noise surrounding the MTV Video Music Awards and the 66th Primetime Emmys beginning to die down, NBC’s top-rated summer series America’s Got Talent will carry out the momentum by airing its semi-finals episode tonight with 24 contestants vying for a chance to win the million-dollar prize.
Howie Mandel — one of the four judges sitting beside Howard Stern, Heidi Klum, and Mel B — phoned in to On Air with Ryan Seacrest on Tuesday to explain how the Nick Cannon-hosted variety show has been a success for nine seasons.
“The beauty of this is if you don’t like something, you know, if you don’t like music — I don’t know who doesn’t like music — but if you don’t like songs or pop music, you wait 90 seconds and there’s a guy, you know, juggling monkeys,” he said. ” There’s something for everybody and in this world of A.D.D., we are the perfect show for absolutely everybody and the whole family.”
Of course, Ryan and Ellen also had to ask Howie about all the reports about Nick’s marital troubles with Mariah Carey, and he had nothing but positive things to say about the host’s professionalism at work despite his personal life.
“That’s what’s amazing about Nick,” said Howie. “He’s a consummate professional. If you weren’t reading rumors and you weren’t reading all the news reports, you would not know the difference between his hosting tonight and a year ago. He shows up, he delivers, he has fun, he keeps the energy up and I’m very proud of him. I hope that what’s going on in his life goes easy on him. I know it can’t be easy.”
America’s Got Talent airs tonight at 9/8c on NBC. Make sure to tweet Howie at @HowieMandel during the live broadcast.
