Ed Sheeran Slams Feud Rumors With Miley Cyrus at the VMAs
Just seconds after his name was announced, the British singer’s achievement had already been eclipsed by his over-analyzed victory waltz to the podium, in which he made a hard pass on Miley Cyrus, who — to many observant spectators — mouthed a foul word at the 23-year-old.
The quick encounter became headlining news with beef theories fueled by a statement Ed gave to The Mirror last September where he called Miley’s twerking “a stripper move.” With an overflow of assumptions from fans and tabloids, On Air With Ryan Seacrest phoned in the “Don’t” singer to put the speculations to rest.
“Well, I don’t know why people were expecting that [high-five]. I’ve never met her,” he tells us. “There was a high-five between me and Scooter [Braun] because I know him, and that was the only high-five. I don’t know what people we’re expecting.”
After slamming rumors and confirming that there was no bad blood on his end, the “Thinking Out Loud” singer praised the Bangerz artist, who won Video of the Year for “Wrecking Ball,” and said he was open for a Miley-Ed collaboration.
“I think she’s a fantastic artist,” he said. “I think she’s got a great voice, writes great songs.”
“The rest of this year, I’ve kind of focused on writing songs with and for other people,” says “The A Team” singer, who wrote over 120 songs in one year. “I’ve started little ideas for the next record, but my main focus towards the end of the year is [to] just kind of unclog the pipes a little bit and just write for the sake of it.”
The redhead, who penned One Direction‘s “Little Things,” Taylor Swift‘s “Everything Has Changed,” and a track for Hilary Duff‘s comeback album, also collaborated with Usher, Skrillex, and Diplo for a song that may be featured in Usher’s forthcoming eighth studio album.
Ed’s X album is available on iTunes now, and he is slated to resume his tour tonight at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Ed is also scheduled to perform on Saturday, September 20 at the two-day iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas.
