Taylor Swift Explains Meaning of ‘Shake It Off’ in Video Outtakes

Taylor Swift hosted a live stream with Yahoo! to drop her newest single “Shake It Off” and the accompanying music video on August 16.

The lead cut off her forthcoming 1989 album peaked at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100, so the ever-so-generous Taylor gifted fans with the first outtake from the dance-influenced visual on Wednesday.

In the behind-the-scenes look, the 24-year-old discusses the meaning behind the self-empowering track and encourages her fans to “dance to the beat of your own drum.”

“A lot of people who I think will relate to this are people who are dealing with not ever feeling cool with themselves because other people make them feel like they don’t fit in,” she says. “One thing I learned in this whole process is like, is you can get everything you in life without ever feeling like you fit in.”

The clip also includes shots of the blonde bombshell practicing her role as a cheerleader, getting thrown into a basket toss, and she even opens up about her preparation for the three-day shoot.

“What I did to prepare for this shoot was I did a lot of running, which I hate,” she said. “But I’ve been running a lot just so that I can do this amount of cardio because Mark [Romanek] has been warning me for about a month now, like, ‘You need to get ready for this.'”

This is the first of many behind-the-scenes look that Taylor will be sharing from the music video. In the meantime, check out the final product below:
