Jamie Foxx called in Wednesday morning to chat with Ryan about his experience mentoring the kids of American Idol. Ryan called him, "one of the best mentors ever had."
Foxx admitted that he was surprised by the caliber of talent the contested have. He said, "when I went into [American Idol] I didn't know what I was going to see...all five of these contestants are true artists...I hope all of these guys get a chance to do a record."
His one wish for the Idols is that no one writes songs for them that keep them in the constraints of American Idol because "all five of those cats are real" and they have so much soul. "I wanted them to look past the show," he said.
As their mentor, Foxx told the Idols "I want you to be nervous." "I wanted to see [Allison] be eager and anxious...people love underdogs," he told Ryan.
Foxx thinks that Kris Allen, who performed "The Way You Look Tonight" "is going to have a significant, significant career." He was surprised to see such talent coming out of such as easy going guy. While mentoring Kris, Foxx realized, "this dude can really kick my tail right now with just some nuance."
Adam Lambert is another one of Foxx's favorites. He told Ryan, "Adam is going to shoot through the roof...he's almost better than I am." During Lambert's performance Tuesday night Foxx thought to himself, "where did he download that soul from?!"
Tonight Jamie Foxx will be performing his most recent hit "Blame It" on American Idol's results show tonight! Tune in to Fox at 9/8c to watch him perform!
