After being a hit show on NBC for an astonishing fifteen years, E.R. is calling it a day.
John Stamos, who plays Dr. Tony Gates on the show, appeared on Ryan Seacrest’s morning show to talk about his “bittersweet” feelings towards the ending of E.R.
Stamos told Ryan that once he signed on to play the doctor he felt “like there was a place for [him].” He explained that joining the show after it had been on-air for so long “was daunting” as the “bar had been set early on by [the beginning cast].” He described the cast and crew as very diligent saying, “You come to work, and you know your lines, and you’re there on time.”
Stamos also addressed rumors of an E.R. spin-off with Ryan. “The show was already a spin-off! The show got complicated and expensive. It seems like it gained some new energy the last few years, so for that I feel they’re ending it too soon,” he said. “But on the other hand it’s been fifteen years. I think they’re going out in a really classy way. I hope the fans [who’ve watched for fifteen years] will be happy.”
Fear not Stamos fans! Although E.R. is over, he is not out of a job. He will soon be off to Broadway to star as Albert Peterson in Bye Bye Birdie!
