Lady Gaga Receives 9 VMA Noms; Explains Bizarre Kermit Coat

International pop sensation Lady Gaga called Ryan from Tokyo, Japan Tuesday to celebrate receiving nine MTV Video Music Award nominations, tying Beyonce for the most nods this year.

"I'm just really really grateful, my friends and I have been working so hard for so long to make work that we really believe in in New York and now people all over the world get to see it," said Gaga.

Inevitably, the interview took a turn towards Lady Gaga's unconventional fashion choices in recent European interviews, specifically a coat made up completely of plush Kermit the Frog puppets.

"The Kermit the Frog outfit is by an incredible designer by the name of Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, and he does a lot of museum art fashion pieces," said Gaga. "I really loved this one in particular because I thought it was commentary on not wearing fur, 'cause I hate fur and I don't wear fur. We were all laughing at the house because it looks like a pile of dead Kermits."

In another German television interview, Gaga wore what some called a lampshade, others called it a shower curtain.

"That was a hat by a contemporary artist and milliner Naseer who works out of London," explained Gaga. What would appear to be a curtain was in fact a "veil he made for me so I could cover my face in interviews and speak only with an electronic mouthpiece," said Gaga. "I wanted to do something that said something about the face of the pop singer. I'm challenge endlessly for my visual performances, and yet when I show up in interviews with my face covered they insist on seeing my face during the interview."
