Perez Hilton Calls In To Clarify Pageant Controversy

Posted 4/20/2009 at 6:30am by Ali

In the question and answer portion of Sunday’s Miss America 2009 Pageant, Perez Hilton asked Miss California her thoughts on legalizing gay marriage to which she responded, “In my country and in my family I think I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman.”

Clearly, the crowd had mixed reviews as boos and applause could be heard after her response.

Check out the video.

Update 9:11 AM PST:

Perez called into Ryan's radio show to explain his thoughts about Miss California's response.

He said, “To her credit that was a very honest answer, so I applaud her for that.”  However, he explained that "Miss USA represents all Americans and that answer instantly alienated million of gay and lesbian Americans, their families, their friends, and straight supporters...I think she lost the crown because of that answer."

Perez told Ryan that it wasn't exactly her point of view that makes him mad but the way in which she answered the question.  He said, "She could've answered it many different ways."

To prove a point Perez asked Miley Cyrus via Twitter how she would've answered the question.  Her answer?  "Everyone deserves to be happy.  That's all I'd say."

How cleverly uncontroversial of you Miley.

Here is Perez's reaction to Miss California right after it happened!

I agree with Miley Cyrus. It's amazing that a teenager was able to answer the question with ease... almost as if it was a "no-brainer". My hope is that some day everyone will have that ability.

it's not a question of his or her preference, thats not what the question was,but thats the answer she gave, if you listen to the question again versus how and what her answer was,she never really andw

According to the MA 2006 Youth Risk Survey, GLBT youth are up to 4 times more likely to attempt suicide than their heterosexual peers. / Help the kids. No one's died from being unable to marry.

I posted several comments on Perez's web site right away last night, and for her to be representing California of all things, it's really terrible, I sent a giant hug to the entire world last night to
