In an interview with Larry King Friday morning, Ryan joined the cause and volunteered to contribute 10,000 nets to fight malaria. Ashton Kutcher and CNN will also be donating nets as the agreed-upon stakes in their highly publicized Twitter battle.
While on the phone, Larry expressed his excitement in the realization that came from the Twitter challenge outcome. He said, “It’s a good sign that one man can take on a giant corporation, the largest entertainment company in the world, and beat them in a Twitter contest. There’s something to be said for that.”
When asked about his feeling towards Kutcher winning the race, he joked saying that he’s “sad and depressed.”
Later he addressed Ashton saying, “Congratulations, it was a good fight. There was a noble aspect to what you did [and] you did some weird things in doing it…I solute you in what you did by donating those nets which CNN is going to do as well.”
Shortly after that, Ryan promised to donate nets for malaria-prevention as well, which immediately caused Oprah to do the same. CNN, Ashton, and Ryan are each donating 10,000 nets, and Oprah has committed to donating 20,000 nets.
King rationalized about the Twitter-craze phenomenon explaining that he “just started this week…and there’s a fascination to it.” He thinks that Twitter’s popularity is based around the fact that it’s “basically an ego-trip.”
The opponents will convene tonight on Larry’s talks show tonight on CNN, where they will most likely talk all-things Twitter. Make sure to tune in to CNN at 9PM ET/6PM PT!
